In case you were wondering if we’ve made a spelling mistake, the Government programme formerly called ‘mydata’ now has the nomenclature and branding ‘midata’. The background to this is that Department for Business Innovation and Skills has been in discussion with a company based in Sweden called ‘Mydata automation AB’ which develops and manufactures technology products for the electronics industry. This company has now asked BIS not to use the ‘mydata’ name for fear of confusion as the programme ramps up and the Charter is launched later this month. Although there is no conflict of interest, BIS has respected their request aware of the fact that ‘midata’ is a business led initiative. So watch this space for ‘midata’ announcements.
Ctrl-Shift are strategic advisors to BIS as part of the ‘midata’ project board. We’re working with 55 UK businesses in the energy, retail, mobile phone and finance sectors to develop the ‘midata’ Charter and Principles and start the phased process of implementation as they release data back to their customers.
